Dry me the river
Potential narrative
- The music video would have a mix between narrative and performance, but it would mostly be made up of narrative.
- The music video would have a vintage filter and would be about a love story.
Potential setting
- There would be a variety of settings including a black background with exploding objects in the frame such as glass, a black background with the whole band in the frame and there will be coloured dust on the drums so when the drums are hit, dust clouds form,
- Also, there will be scenes with just the main vocalist in them which will just be of him and there will be scenes where the band is together performing.
Camera shots
- Long shots of the band.
- Medium shots of the main vocalist.
- Extreme shots of the main vocalist.
- Medium long shots.
- A scene will match the line "Did jealous keep my picture frames" as the main vocalist will be standing infront of a brick wall will loads of empty picture frames hung on the wall.
- To match the line "If I don’t eat, I don’t sleep at all" by the main vocalist lying in a bed.
- To match the lines "Did you see the light in my heart? Did you see the sweat on my brow?Did you see the fear in my heart?" there will be a extreme close up of the main vocalists chest, of his eyebrow with sweat dripping down it and of his his heart by having a shot that goes from a normal shot of the main vocalist hold an x-ray to the camera zooming into an extreme shot of the x-ray, showing his heart.

Texual Analysis of music videos
Carol Vernall's Analysis
1)Narrative
-The video suits the style and genre of the music and the look of the artist. It also cuts in time and rhythm with the soundtrack.
-There is not necessarily always a balance narrative and performance
-The narrative is not always complete-it maybe a partial, fragmented narrative
-The structure of the video may appear disjointed
-Something drives the video forward, but often it is not the narrative. It could be the music, the performance, a mixture, or some other element
2)Editing
-Editing may match the musical phases or the beat
-The video in general cuts to the beat of the music or in time with the lines in the song to run fluently alongside the music. Every movement, action or cut in the visuals fits with the rhythm of the soundtrack.
-The video may disrupt/break many of the 'rules' of continuity editing-this is a clear convention of music video editing
-Editing may become 'foregrounded'-the edit may be really obvious, to draw attention to themselves as opposed to invisible, continuity editing
-A style of editing that runs through the video and is distinctive to that video
3)Camera work
-When it comes to shot types, extremes are very common
-Extreme shots are common (extreme close ups) however aren't as common as mid shots and close ups, familiarizing the audience with the face and look of the artist
-The style of framing and movements may run through the video and be distinctive to that video a lot of panning/turning shots using mid-long distance to match the ongoing action and movement of the artist and scene
-The camera may move in time with the music
-The camera may move on the lyrics
-the master(or establishing shots) is used frequently, as are the close-ups
4)Diegesis
-The diegesis may be revealed quite slowly
-Actions are not necessarily completed-they may be disrupted or interrupted in some way
-There may be gaps in the audiences's understanding of the diegesis in time and space, music, performance and narrative
-Some frames may be more important than others
-There be many repetitions E.g Musical phrases, the beat, other musical elements, themes, lyrics, performance, colours, images, camera positions

Audience
Audience
How do you consume music?
When? do you have a daily music routine? Is some music more suitable at a certain time of day than another?
I listen to music everyday on the way to and from school(one hour per day). I normally listen to music using YouTube, this is because i have a very limited storage space on my phone, however have unlimited internet, making you-tube very accessible and easy. The disadvantages of using the internet on a mobile device is that it drains the battery very quickly and sometimes buffers.
Where? clubs, bedroom, gigs, car?
Who with? do you share your music or is it an individual experience?
Why? What are the pleasures associated with music consumption? What does it offer the audience and what needs does it gratify?
USES AND GRATIFICATIONS THEORY
Personal Identification - when I used to get angry with my parents I used to blast songs that would express how I feel and that would make me feel better
Information - sometimes you learn something from a song? Oliver Cromwell by Monty Python taught me some history.
Entertainment - Madonna and her dance moves
Social Interaction - songs my friends and I would always request and dance to when we went out
escapism
create mood - romance, melancholy, upbeat
cheer you up
get you in the mood to go out
add atmosphere to a gathering
help you sleep
distraction
companionship - driving, travelling

Applying Andrew Godwin's theory on music videos
1) Relationship between the lyrics and the visuals, which illustrate, amplify or contradict the lyrics
2)thought beats;seeing the sounds(the relationship between the music and the visuals, which illustrate, amplify or contradict the music)
3)Genre-related style and iconography present
4)Multiple close ups of the main artist or vocalist: the creation of a star image to promote a recognizable brand image
5)Voyeurism often plays a major part, especially in relation to females
6)Intertexual references to other media texts may be present especially in humorous videos-referring other texts
Pop- Thinking out loud-Ed Sheeran

Key Aspects
1) Thought beats- Where you 'see' the sound
Three steps:
-This is when you look into the music and interpret it by looking at the verses/chorus
-Goodwin says this "the voice within the song"-this is when the artists voice is extremely unique and can be recognized for this quality E.g Ellie Goulding
-Goodwin states that this is the step where the artist is telling a story within their songs as therefore generates their reputation as a 'storyteller'. The music video in this case is created to emphasize the lyrics and the story within the songs. E.g Adel
2)Narrative and Performance
-Goodwin stated that music videos should avoid the common narrative as their role is more to advertise than become a story. The artist therefore will become both a participant and narrator within the music video to increase authenticity for the audience. Lip synchronizing and other actions featured in the video increase its verisimilitude and therefore prevents the audience from disbelieving the narrative/performance. E.g Beyonce
3)Star Image
-Goodwin identified that the star image is another key aspect within music videos. He believes that an iconic star image can increase the audiences awareness of the artist. E.g Elvis
4)Relation of visuals to song
-Illustrate
-Amplify
-Disjuncture
5)Technical aspects of a music video
-Camera=Angles
-Sound=Pace
-Mise en scene=Location, Costume
-Editing=Visuals to make the video interesting

Andrew Godwin's music video theory
Conventions:
1) Relationship between the lyrics and the visuals, which illustrate, amplify or contradict the lyrics
This convention explains how Goodwin noticed a music video's visuals either had a complete sim
E.g Price tag-Jessie J
2)thought beats;seeing the sounds(the relationship between the music and the visuals, which illustrate, amplify or contradict the music)
E.g Someone like you-Adel
3)Genre-related style and iconography present
E.g Taylor Swift-girly-pop
4)Multiple close ups of the main artist or vocalist: the creation of a star image to promote a recognizable brand image
5)Voyeurism often plays a major part, especially in relation to females
6)Intertexual references to other media texts may be present especially in humorous videos-referring other texts
E.g Beat it-Micheal Jackson-West side story/iggy-fnacy
