Cosmo Girl Magazine

Me and Issy created these magazine covers on Photoshop. We decided to go with Cosmo Girl due to the a fact we have a young target audience. Influenced by Ellie Goulding, who was on the cover of Cosmopolitan, we went with Cosmo girl because its more user friendly and cosmopolitan is too advanced for our target market.
We chose blue and red as our colour scheme for this task because they contrast and compliment the outfit i am wearing. Most of the writing as been inspired by other Cosmo girl magazines on the market, however i changed the writing so it was relevant to the singer and our project.

Finished Digipak

Website progress

You can now buy signed posters on the merchandise page, and also instead of having a bare homepage, we've created a news feed inspired by Ellie Goulding's website. These improvements were made in reflection to our website feedback.

Another website update is the 'Live' page, this includes all the tour locations, these have been inspired by the band 'FOXES'.

Also when you click onto buy tickets, it takes you to the locations ticket website where you can purchase tickets.
Below is an example of the first 'buy tickets' link.

Tour Dates poster

Issy created this Tour dates poster on Photoshop for the upcoming 'Vision' Tour. She specifically used purples and blues to tie in with our theme and the pose i am doing in the photo guides your eyes to look down to the tour dates.

Updated digipak

This is the updated digipak, I've made a few changes from the first draft to make the outcome more professional.
First of all, as you can see i have started a credits and thanks yous square. I made this decision because some of the feedback i got back was to include my own writing and also, too many pictures alone looked too dry and boring.
instead of having a special thanks page, i decided to name mine 'Credits and Thank yous' because i was influenced by Jessie J's digipak and loved the style and layout.

Another change i have made on the digipak is made our own production company.
'Soraya productions', here is the logo i made below. Instead of using a well known production company, i noticed 'Lana Del Rey' also has her own production company, 'Lana Del Rey productions'. Her logo is shown below.

The last change i made was make our CD a special edition CD. I chose to do this becuase, everyone loves getting extra tracks and features and also it made our CD more original. I got inspired by 'One Direction' and 'Lana del rey' once again, who are both mainstream pop artists, so it fit perfectly with our main theme.

Digipak CD

Quick presentation kindly made by Lucy showing the CD development and name change.

Poster Design

Issy created these two posters, to advertise our new album release and looking at other artists posters, this is what we came up with.
Asking people which they preferred, they all thought the pink/purple poster fit our image better because it goes well with our digipak. Also i think the writing on the black and white poster is unclear and too serious. We want to come across as very arty, modern and edgy, so this edited picture of me, shows some aspects of our digipak with blurry edgy pictures.

Group Timetable

Below is a picture of our group's timetable for both week A and B. It shows when each member of the group has a free and when we have a media lesson. We created this so that we could plan when we would do our tasks such as assigned group tasks, photo-shoots and filming. This meant that is was easier to plan what we needed to do as we knew when we were all available. We text each other through whatsapp, and other social medias to make sure everyone's defiantly available, or if anyone's going to be late.

Photoshop Manipulation

Here are some of the photos we all edited separately for our website, poster and Digipak. They all share the same colour scheme and tones. We liked this look for our artist image and enjoyed editing more and more photos throughout the process.

Website planning

Name Change
Due to the change from a band to just Soraya, we decided that the name 'Vision' was no longer suitable as it was more appropriate to a band rather than a solo artist. Because of this we have changed the name from 'Vision' to 'Soraya' as it is unique.
Here are some images that we are considering using for the text of our new name. We will be using the name for websites, social media and the digi-pak.
We like these two texts as they look bold and we have the colour of purple which we will use for most text and colour as it suits indie-pop as it is not too girly or dark.

Background Designs

For our music video we needed to create three different backgrounds, which are a fire wall, an eye board and a paint board. To do this we brought a sheet of wood from the school's D.T department and cut it in half. I took one piece home and painted it white so that it was ready for us to chuck paint at it and the other piece we kept in school to work on during school hours. We did this because the resources we needed were based at school and the sheets were too big to take two of them home. During some of our media lessons we worked on the fire wall. To create the fire we used yellow, orange and red tissue paper and tore it up into strips, We then stuck on the ends of the strips on to the wooden board so that the strips were still lose at the other end. This meant that when we had stuck all the strips onto the boards the tissue paper looked like it was coming out of the board, creating a flame effect.

On the other side of the fire board we created the eye board. This first design was to paint eyes onto the board but as we were running out of time we decided to print different eyes off the internet and use googly eyes as well. To create the background of the eye board we used PVA to stick strips of news paper down. We did this as we wanted to create a collage effect. We then cut around the eyes that we had printed out and scattered them around the board. to avoid making them look neat and in a pattern we stuck them down at different angles. In the gaps we placed the googly eyes so that the board didn't look spacious.

Album cover tester

Here is one possible new album cover. We have had to look at more as we changed our group to just Soraya, however we would still like to use the same photo-shoot photos of just Soraya and have a similar effect. This is only one idea to test the text and colours.

Similar artist websites

Due to the change from a group to a solo artist we carried out more research about similar solo artists to our artist.

Similar artists photo shoots and fashion

Issy has also done some  research into more photo-shoots similar to ours which she has presented on slide share shown above.

Filming session 3

The photos above were taken whilst we were filming shots for our music video at another location. We took shots of Soraya standing in front of the graffiti  and lip syncing through different angles and shots. We also took some shots that we could use to create a clone effect and some images of Soraya moving to create a stop motion effect in our music video. We used different bits of the graffiti wall so that we had different colour backgrounds to make the music video backgrounds more interesting. We also took shots to open the music video and shots to put in the parts of the song that is instrumental.

Filming Session 2

Above is a behind the scenes picture of our second filming session. For this filming session we used a smaller drama room in the school and we used the school lights that were available in the room to create a purple light as well as using a white light from the media department. We used the black background as the wall looked nice with the purple light. Also, the shadows created by the lights were really good. This was because the lights were pointing at Soraya from different angles causing her to have two shadows, creating an interesting effect as it looks like there are three Soraya's in the video.

Also, Earlier on in the day we used the weather to our advantage as went outside onto the school field and recorded Soraya lip syncing the song two time with her in front of a tree. The weather was sunny with some light winds, which caused the lighting in the videos to be really good and the wind caused Soraya to have a wind swept look in some parts of the video.

Spain Footage

When i  missed the week as i went to Spain i managed to film a lot of shots whilst i was there as i took her camera with me. The footage i filmed was brilliant as certain shots looked really professional as the sunny and dry weather created really nice natural lighting on me. i couldn't take a schools camera to Spain so i took my own which could have been risky as the quality may not have been good but now looking at the footage, the detail and quality i captured was really nice and is defiantly worth using for the video. The camera i used for this filming was a Nikon DSLR which gave great quality for the filming.

i  managed to film in many locations such as the street and the beach and even managed to find a wall which had graffiti on it which links perfectly to our theme of art and creative backgrounds. i  got my mum to film me against these backgrounds which will look great with the rest of our footage.

There could have been many potential problems of me filming in Spain, for example it could have made the rest of the footage look different and not as good as the locations would have been very different which could have spoilt our other locations. Another issue is that i could have filmed footage that wouldn't have looked good as it could have taken a different theme. But i managed to find some appropriate locations and managed to fit to the genre whilst filming.

One problem i had was something that could have potentially been really good. At the time of  me being away issy and lucy still had the name of vision so when i was at the beach i  printed the name 'vision' in the sand and the sea washed it away which looked really good on camera but now we are using the name Soraya which means we cannot use that footage. However if we did use this footage it may not have looked as good as it may have taken away the nice look to the rest of the footage although it does still fit the art theme to our video.

Below are some images of footage that i got from being in Spain which shows the locations.

Digipak Designs

PAINT THEME:

This design relates to the childish side to the music video. This colourful, fun design is also my favourite.

EYE THEME:
This design relates to some of the lyrics of the song, this visual is very loud and strange, giving our artist an edgy image.

Filming session 1

Drama Studio-Projector scenes

Above are some pictures from our first filming session. The screen and the projected images were set up in the schools drama studio as we could make the room pitch black. We did a couple of shots of Soraya lip syncing in front of the screen and some shots of all three of us messing around. We used three cameras to film different angles of the performances. This meant that we have more footage to play around with when it comes to the editing stage. After looking through the footage me and my group decided that it was best to only have soraya in these scenes as we distract the viewers eye from the main singer and the shots with all three of us in them look crowded.

Album cover experimentation

Below are two images from my groups second photo shoot. I edited the pictures using Photoshop and created two possible pictures for the cover of my groups digi pak.

Drama Studio Usage

For our music video one of our locations is the schools drama studio. As this is a room where the drama teachers teach we needed to know the times and days when the drama studio is free. So we emailed the head of drama and asked for the time and dates when the drama studio is free.
